Mackinac Island – Wisconsin Dells

Algoma Central Railway – Canadian Train Excursion

Sept. 30 – Oct. 8

DAY ONE: We’ll enjoy a travel and get-acquainted day, heading to Indianapolis, by way of Knoxville, Lexington and Louisville, Kentucky. This will take us through beautiful country including the Great Smokies and the bluegrass farms of Kentucky!

DAY TWO: Following a short tour of the “City of Speed” this morning, we’ll continue to the windy city of Chicago. Here you’ll have a chance to take an elevator ride to the top of the nation’s tallest building . . . “Willis Tower.” We will do additional touring in Chicago as time permits. Late this afternoon we arrive in Madison, Wisconsin for overnight.

DAY THREE: Our first stop is in Spring Green, Wisconsin at the “House on the Rock!”  Considered by many people to be the world’s most unusual house, it contains gardens, waterfalls, pools, trees, the world’s largest carousel and a collection of many music machines – all “inside the house!” This afternoon we’ll take the famous Wisconsin Dells boat tour. We take the Upper Dells tour that makes three very special stops . . . be sure and have your cameras ready!

DAY FOUR: We’ll head across Wisconsin and Michigan by way of Oshkosh, Green Bay and Menominee and round the north shore of Lake Michigan to Mackinaw City – our home for the next two nights.

DAY FIVE: We continue north across the “Mighty Mac Bridge” and up I-75 to its very end at Sault Ste. Marie. Our first stop will be at the train station where we’ll board the famous “Algoma Central” for an all day excursion to Agawa Canyon. This is a beautiful ride through the Canadian wilderness with some spectacular fall foliage and a chance to see some wildlife. Breakfast and lunch will be included on the train today. Upon returning to Sault Ste Marie, we’ll board our motorcoach and make a stop at the famous “Soo Locks” (known as the Panama Canal of the north) and then return to Mackinac City for overnight.

DAY SIX: This will be a very special day for us! Our morning begins with a ferry ride to “Mackinac Island” . . . known as “The Bermuda of the North.” Once a resort for only the nation’s wealthiest families, now it’s one of the top tourist attractions in the nation.  While on the island, we’ll take a carriage tour, have lunch at the Grand Hotel (second largest wooden hotel in the world with the longest front porch of any hotel) and have plenty of time to sightsee and shop in the village. There are no automobiles allowed on the island, all transportation is by horse and carriage or bicycle, even the fire wagon is pulled by horses. Late this afternoon we travel to West Branch, Michigan for overnight.

DAY SEVEN: We continue south this morning to Frankenmuth for a stop at Bonner’s Christmas World.  After a chance to shop and sightsee here, we’ll travel to Southfield for an afternoon visit to the famous “Henry Ford Museum.” Covering over 14 acres under one roof, this museum contains planes, trains, automobiles and everything else imaginable.  It is truly a cross section of American life.  We will travel to Dayton, Ohio for overnight.

DAY EIGHT: This morning will be yet another great highlight of our tour. We’ll visit the U.S. Air Force Museum at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton.  It will amaze us to see some of the fighter planes and prototypes that the Air Force has on display.  This afternoon we’ll depart Dayton and travel south to the “Queen City” of Cincinnati for overnight.

DAY NINE: We’ll travel south today into the “Bluegrass State” of Kentucky. We’ll take a driving tour along Iron Horse Pike to show you some on the most beautiful (and famous) horse farms in the area. Then we’ll continue south on I-75 by way of Berea, London and Corbin to Knoxville where we’ll pick up I-40 east back into North Carolina (your tour director has a very special stop in mind for this afternoon). We’ll arrive home early this evening with lots of memories and pictures of another wonderful tour.
