Niagara Falls and the Ohio Amish Country

July 26 – 30

Note – Passport Required

DAY ONE: Good morning and welcome aboard our late model deluxe motorcoach. We’ll depart upstate South Carolina and Western North Carolina and head north. Our route today will take us across Fancy Gap into Virginia and on up the West Virginia Turnpike. At Beckley, we’ll head northeast across Hwy 19, making a sightseeing stop at the New River Gorge Bridge (second highest in the United States). After our stop here we’ll continue into the “Keystone State” of Pennsylvania to Mercer for overnight.

DAY TWO: We’ll get our day started with a hearty breakfast (included) and then continue north on I-79. This morning finds us skirting the shores of Lake Erie and crossing the Grand Isle into Canada. We’ll cross the Rainbow Bridge and then we’ll be in Niagara Falls! We’ll stop for a chance to take pictures of the Canadian (or Horseshoe) Falls, the American & Bridal Veil Falls. This afternoon we’ll take a driving tour of the Niagara Parkway where we’ll see the Niagara School of Horticulture, the Hydro Electric Plant, and the famous Floral Clock. Two very special activities today will include lunch atop the Skylon Tower, rising over 800 feet above the falls, and a ride on the Hornblower boat cruise, that will take us right up to the base of the thundering Canadian falls! Tonight we’ll go to the observation deck of the Skylon Tower for a spectacular view of the falls (with the colored lights on them) at night! The Skylon Tower features an international market place that has treasures from around the world.

DAY THREE: This will be a very special day. We’ll be free to just relax and enjoy Niagara Falls. You may want to walk along the Parkway, visit the shops and museums (Ripley’s Believe It Or Not, etc.). On Clifton Hill, visit Maple Leaf Village or ride across the whirlpools on the Spanish aero car! Early afternoon we’ll depart Niagara Falls and travel west via I-90 through the vineyard country of upstate New York and into the “Buckeye State” of Ohio. We’ll skirt the bustling city of Cleveland and continue south to Canton. We’ll make a very, very special stop this afternoon at the Harry London Candy Company. We’ll get a chance to taste a sample and then purchase our favorite kind. Once you’ve tasted it, you’ll agree that this is truly the best candy in the world! Our next stop will be at the President William McKinley Memorial and Grave site. This is one of the most impressive monuments in The United States. Our home tonight will be in Strasburg, Ohio.

DAY FOUR: We’ll depart Strasburg this morning and travel south to Dover, Ohio for a visit to Warther’s Carvings. Here we’ll see the hand carvings of Mr. David Warther that include the Lincoln Funeral Train – carved from a single piece of ivory and wood carvings that are so outstanding they are displayed in the Smithsonian, the White House and museums around the world. We’ll also see Mrs. Warther’s button collection. Next, our local “step on” guide will join us as we travel west to Walnut Creek and the heart of the Ohio Amish country. This is the largest Amish settlement in the United States, so get ready to see plenty of horse and buggies and farmers working their fields of corn and grain. We’ll take a guided tour of the farmlands, enjoy an Amish family style meal (included), visit a cheese factory and Amish craft barn. We’ll travel to West Virginia for overnight.

DAY FIVE: We’ll travel south this morning to Beckley, West Virgina for a stop at “Tamarack” – this unusual building houses the very best products of the artisans and craft professionals of the entire state of West Virginia. This is a stop everyone loves. Mid-afternoon finds us traveling south on the turnpike and back into the “Old Dominion State” of Virginia. We plan to arrive in Western North Carolina (and home) late this evening. It’s time to say goodbye to our traveling friends and start planing our next getaway!
